The Hordelands: Mongolia in the age of Genghis Khan.Anchôromé: Pre-Columbian North America meets Heroic Fantasy.Maztica: Central & South American style setting.Peculiar magic (based on the Oriental five elements, of course). Kara-Tur: Oriental adventures - martial arts and all.Al-Qadim: Played on the continent of Zakhara, includes "Arabian Nights" Days and peculiar magic (tied to genies, astrology, magical weaving, and so on).Arcane Age: Still the continent of Faerûn, but thousands of years in the past, with a lot of Magitek on top.The setting is also notable for having a number of sub-settings: Prominent features are constant conflicts between numerous and very active deities, the world being one big Gambit Pileup between dozens of factions, and scads of high-powered Non Player Characters (mostly the stars of the setting's popular novel lines) running around. The primary focus of the setting is the continent of Faerûn, part of the world of Abeir-Toril, an Earth-like planet with many real world influences. With its first release as a boxed set in 1987, "The Realms" became the most popular setting with D&D players. When TSR decided to add another official campaign setting to Greyhawk, Dragonlance, and Mystara, they asked Greenwood if his clearly well-thought out world was available, and he agreed to release it to them (albeit with him maintaining editorial control). Beginning with a one-page write-up on the curst in Dragon #30, he produced dozens of articles that delved into the history, personalities and creatures of the land. It was originally created by author and game designer Ed Greenwood as a setting for his own stories, but after he discovered D&D he adapted it to the game system.

Forgotten Realms is a campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game.
